"WE MUST ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE
OF BEING DEEPLY, VULNERABLY, HUMAN."
-Rev. Amy Petrie Shaw
The Reverend Amy Petrie Shaw brings a vibrant voice and dynamic presence to Unitarian Universalist ministry, and is unafraid to share a gospel of Love based on radical welcome and intersectional inclusion.
Shaw is not about "a casual faith," but about a living faith; she calls the world to deep and meaningful connection, lived values, and worship which nourishes the mind and soul.
Shaw is a '13 graduate of Meadville Lombard Theological School, and was the winner of the 2013 Roberta Nelson Prize in Religious Education. She currently serves as the Interim Minister for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Venice, Florida, and as a Good Officer, or conflict resolution specialist, for the UU Ministers Association.
Amy came to ministry after a career as a college professor and nurse executive, specializing in facility restructuring, fund raising, and crisis management. She is a trained and gifted preacher, with a special skill for working with children and young adults, and she brings the full weight of her past experience to her ministry.
In her spare time, Amy is a selling mixed-media artist whose art work has been recognized nationally and internationally by New Art Examiner (New Art Examiner Vol. 32, No. 3, Pg. 21), Spotlight Contemporary Art Magazine (Spotlight Contemporary Art Magazine, Issue 20, Pg. 110-111), Artistonish Magazine (Artistonish Magazine Issue #8, March 2021, Pg. 32) and by Article 25 News. She is also the author of the laugh-out-loud funny book of essays, The Tao of the Dippy Cat, and the science fiction/fantasy novel, Gloriana. Amy is fascinated by computers and is devoted to digital literacy.
Amy is Middle-Eastern and white, and was adopted as a child and raised by a white family. She grew up with a sister and two cousins, and her parents currently are raising her nieces who are 21 and 23.
Amy currently lives in Venice, Florida with her beloved friend Nancy and three spoiled cats.
